Châteauroux and its city centre
Capital of the department, Châteauroux spreads its city centre around Place Monestier and Place Voltaire. People come to shop, linger on a shaded terrace, visit the Bertrand museum or the Raoul castle overlooking the Indre valley. The quays and parks offer fine walks in the lower town: a relaxed setting, perfect for a first drink and a conversation that stretches out without effort.
Issoudun and the White Tower
Some thirty kilometres east, Issoudun is proud of its White Tower, a medieval keep dominating the town, and of its Hospice Saint-Roch museum, which hosts a contemporary art collection impressive for a town of this size. The pedestrian streets and old ramparts lend themselves to a quiet afternoon, alternating coffee, shopping and museum for a date full of ideas.
Argenton-sur-Creuse and the Creuse valley
To the south, Argenton-sur-Creuse, nicknamed the Venice of Berry, lines up its wooden-galleried houses above the river. A little further on, Gargilesse-Dampierre, dear to George Sand, and Saint-Benoît-du-Sault, one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France, invite a slow wander. On Lyad, members from the Indre share their favourite spots; it is up to you to find someone to go and discover them with.
